Backpacking is something that I love to do. Surviving in the wilderness with only the few things you can carry on your back, and your friends at your side is one of the most rewarding exhilarating things you can do. My first backpacking trip was the most memorable week of my life. I was attending Camp Highlands for my third summer there in 2015 and decided to go on the most difficult trip that I could, the Isle Royale hiking trip. Isle Royale is national park that is described as a remote island cluster in Lake Superior (description from Google Maps). This trip involved hiking around the island for 7 days with a total length of approximately 105 miles. The aspect that made the grueling and long days of hiking on the Minong ridge bearable was definitely the people I shared them with. To be honest, I didn't really know what to expect on this trip, I was preparing for the worst but getting on the trail, I realized that it was nothing more than walking on any other trail. I felt relieved at this and the trip ahead of me seemed to grow less daunting. As the days became more difficult, our spirits were made tired. Every day we ended with less energy and more longing for civilization. We started to grow closer in our isolation and I felt renewed by the end of the trip. I would be lying if I said that the end of the trip didn't come as a relief however that does not subtract from the worth that I got out of it. I think that everyone should share an experience like the one that I had in Isle Royale.
